2026 U.S. National Yo-Yo Champion · 4th in the World · 2026 Spirit Champion
You don’t need to know another yo-yo player near you to have a community. Whether you’re just getting started or have been throwing for years, there are people here who share your excitement. Whether you’re practicing at home, sharing your progress online, or meeting other players in person, you belong here.
When you get into yo-yoing, you might become known as “the yo-yo kid.” You practice a trick for days, finally land it, and want to show someone who understands why it’s such a big deal. But sometimes, you don’t know anyone else who loves it the way you do.
I was lucky. When I first started, I had a local yo-yo club. People helped me learn, encouraged me when I got frustrated, and celebrated the tricks I’d worked so hard to land. They became my friends.

As I kept learning, that little club opened the door to a much bigger world. I started traveling to contests and visiting yo-yo clubs in other countries, meeting people I might never have crossed paths with otherwise. We shared tricks, practiced together, and cheered each other on. We learned to celebrate each other’s wins, even when we’d hoped to win ourselves, and supported each other through losses, both on and off the stage. Those friendships grew into shared adventures, everyday life, and memories we’re still making.

That’s what I want to share through YoYoChampion: friendships that grow beyond the tricks that brought us together. Whether you’re practicing in your bedroom or meeting players halfway around the world, you deserve people who understand your excitement, celebrate your progress, and remind you that you’re valued for who you are.
You might be “the yo-yo kid” at school. Here, you’re one of us. — Gentry
