We’ve got self-driving cars, robots doing parkour, AI making music and now some of the most advanced technology ever put into yo-yos.
As a 4× U.S. National Champion and 2× World Champion with over 20 years in yo-yoing, I’ve had the opportunity to learn from some of the greatest players in the world, test hundreds of yo-yos, and work closely with many of the most respected designers in the industry.

After more than 20 years of obsessing over yo-yos, studying things like materials, shape, weight distribution, and performance, it takes a lot for a design to truly stand out. But these next ones do.
Below is a breakdown of modern yo-yos that use new materials, innovative engineering, or entirely new concepts to push performance forward, these are the 5 most futuristic yo-yos you can actually get right now.
1. Nine Dragons
The Nine Dragons is one of the most revolutionary yo-yos ever made.
Its outer shell spins independently from the inner body, allowing you to touch, catch, or roll it across your arm without stopping the spin.

Before this design, grabbing a spinning yo-yo mid-trick simply wasn’t possible. The Nine Dragons didn’t just add a feature, it created an entirely new style of play and made tricks possible that had never existed before.
2. 99 Dragons
The 99 Dragons is the bimetal evolution of the Nine Dragons, built for true high-performance play. It keeps the same triple-bearing, free-spinning shell that allows mid-air catches while the yo-yo continues spinning, but adds stainless steel rims for significantly more power, stability, and spin efficiency.

The polycarbonate shells keep it light and responsive, while the steel rims deliver the precision and power demanded for intermediate to advanced yoyo players.
The result is a smoother, quieter yo-yo that spins longer and plays stronger than the original. If you want the most refined, longest-spinning, performance-focused version of the Nine Dragons, the 99 Dragons is it.
3. DNA King
The DNA King was designed specifically for the most viral trick in the world: the DNA.
Its auto-orienting technology and finger spin cap make it dramatically easier to land your finger in the correct position and keep the yo-yo perfectly centered.

It settles quickly, stays balanced, and helps you to remains stable and locked in every throw. Although, The DNA King is optimized for finger spins, it also still functions as a full performance model, capable of handling regular tricks, long combos, and competition-level play.
4. Shutter Mini
Many minis in the past were fun novelty pieces, but not tools you could genuinely train on. This one is different.
The Shutter Mini offers the same level of control and performance you expect from a competition yo-yo, but it was intentionally scaled down for training.

By placing most of its weight into stainless steel rims, it remains powerful, stable, and long-spinning despite its reduced size. This was inspired by the exact training approach I used while preparing for my second World Championship, practicing difficult tricks on a smaller yo-yo to increase precision and control. I knew this training approach was revolutionary, and I wanted to create the best mini yo-yo in the world for it.
When you can consistently hit your hardest tricks on the Shutter Mini and then switch back to a full-size Shutter or Shutter Wide Angle, everything feels easier and more accurate.
It’s fun to play with, but more importantly, it’s an effective training tool.
5. G Force
The G Force uses a hybrid construction unlike anything else on this list: a polycarbonate body paired with stainless steel rims.
Polycarbonate is roughly 55% lighter than aluminum and significantly more impact-resistant than titanium or any aluminum alloy (including 7068). That reduced body weight allows more mass to be pushed into the rims without making the yo-yo feel heavy.

This is why the G Force can be wide, powerful, and stable while still moving lightly on the string. It holds its shape through fast tricks and long combos but remains easy to control and forgiving.
There hasn’t been a yo-yo built quite like this before. Getting the hybrid construction to play perfectly took extensive design work and the result is a performance feel you simply can't get from monometal or bimetal designs.

Why These Yo-Yos Matter
Yo-yos have been around for thousands of years, and every so often, a design comes along that permanently changes what’s possible, just like the Nine Dragons did.
But innovation doesn’t stop with a single breakthrough. New materials, wider shapes, refined weight distribution, and smarter solutions to old problems continue to push yo-yoing forward.

What makes that progress possible isn’t just technology, it’s the people behind it. Players, designers, and the community constantly experiment, question old rules, and try ideas no one has explored before.
That’s how yo-yoing evolves and anyone can be part of it.
The YoYoChampion Mission
Yo-yoing has always been about experimentation, pushing ideas, breaking rules, and discovering what’s possible when you challenge your limits.
That mindset is what drives YoYoChampion.

I started this brand to support creativity and innovation in yo-yo design and competition, but also in how players approach learning, performance, and life. Every breakthrough, on stage or off, comes from questioning the norm and continuing to push forward.
Our motto: show up, never give up, lift others up, reflects that process. Try new ideas. Fail. Adjust. Keep going.
My goal is to create thoughtful, high quality designs and a community that encourages players to experiment, challenge themselves, and move forward together.
Yo-yoing evolves because people are willing to push it forward.
Welcome to the YoYoChampion family.
